Save time with shipping software from Heidler and Citizen printers

Delivery data, ERP processing, carriers and labels – many factors need to be considered when printing labels for shipping. Speed and precision are critical. An automated shipping system process from Heidler Strichcode and label printers from Citizen Systems create the conditions for fast package processing. That’s because the shipping department uses them to print the correct delivery and return label for each carrier in no time at all.
The shipping business is growing and customers expect fast deliveries. Delivery is therefore highly time-critical for shippers and hardly feasible without a fast and reliable shipping solution. At the same time, parcel shipping is a time-consuming job. Fast and effective shipping solution
Heidler barcode software together with Citizen printers provides an all-round solution for shipping label printing: “Heidler’s HVS32 shipping system can be used to print shipping labels and automate the entire shipping process. This saves a lot of time and effort because jobs are imported directly via the platform and dispatched from there. Printing is controlled centrally from the server. If there is also a connection via an SAP interface, the shipping system handles the label preparation and then prints via the system,” says Arndt Fromm, authorized signatory of Heidler Strichcode GmbH, describing the application scenario at his customers.
Free choice of parcel shipper
In a typical shipping center, employees in the packing center scan orders and items with a wireless scanner and monitor the entries on a touch-screen computer. Depending on the shipper, one or two labels are printed with all shipping information: one label for shipping and one return label.
The right shipping software is the first step for an optimized shipping process. With the HVS32 shipping solution from Heidler, you have all CEP and forwarding service providers optimally under control. Because HVS32 integrates over 280 carriers centrally in one software. In addition, HVS32 offers extensive ERP, LVS, WMS interfaces and numerous extension functions such as invoice control, freight cost management or best price determination. Due to its individual customization options, the shipping system ensures seamless integration into existing logistics processes and can thus be used flexibly and individually.

When shipping, other parcel shippers can be freely selected in addition to the usual carriers, such as GLS, DHL and DPD. Each carrier has its own label format, which is configured via the Heidler software.
“The network capability with the printer is important when working with fully automated background processes to SAP”; explains Arndt Fromm. “If a shipping center wants a shipping label, we control that completely in the background. SAP sends us the interface, the shipping system handles the label preparation and then prints via the system.
Shipping labels must be accepted by the carrier in each case – Heidler also supports customers in this. To ensure that the correct labels come out and the formatting fits, the shipper must have everything approved by the carrier in each case. When switching to a different shipping system, the shipper must integrate the new return system and send labels to the carrier for testing, which are then approved by the carrier. The carrier issues an approval for the label formatting in each case.
Monitor label printer remotely
For industrial printing, Citizen’s CL-E720 printer, which runs via management servers, is suitable and proves advantageous thanks to its remote capability: “You can connect remotely to any printer and configure it. This makes it possible to diagnose remotely whether it has a fault, if necessary, or whether a restart is required. The printer can be controlled completely remotely,” explains Jörk Schüßler, Marketing Director EMEA at Citizen Systems Europe.
Citizen’s CL-E720 prints labels quickly and accurately. Because the printer features Citizen’s ARCP™ mechanism, sharp, high-quality print results are guaranteed. A built-in sensor and LCD display allow the operator to immediately see when a media change is needed. With a print speed of up to 200 mm per second, the printer is designed for fast printing and operates via thermal transfer and direct thermal.
Durable and stress-resistant
“It’s important that the printers are robust, because things get dusty in a shipping center,” explains Jörk Schüßler. “Nevertheless, our customers have few problems with our printers. Every now and then, they clean the devices, the rubber roller or gear wheels. But even the older devices still print reliably despite the heavy use.
